Veterans Programs

As part of ASMDA’s stated objective to be “an organization, which can benefit the missile defense industry professionally and foster community and civic interests and goals,” ASMDA is deeply rooted in its support to local Veterans’ organizations across North Alabama. 

The ASMDA Veterans Programs Committee plans and executes ASMDA’s veterans initiatives and manages associated budgets.

In support of ASMDA’s mission to benefit the missile defense industry while fostering community and civic engagement, the organization proudly supports local veterans and their families across North Alabama. In addition to financial contributions, many ASMDA members volunteer their time and leadership to ensure our veterans receive meaningful support and recognition.

Since 1995, ASMDA has partnered with and supported the following programs and organizations:

  • Madison County Veterans Memorial Foundation

    Sponsor of the Korean War Black Granite Marker and U.S. Coast Guard Flag at the Madison County Veterans Memorial, dedicated on November 11, 2011.

  • Blue Star Program

    In partnership with the North Alabama Veterans and Fraternal Order Coalition (NAVFOC), ASMDA helps honor mothers of currently serving Service Members.

  • Gold Star Banner Shadow Boxes

    Supports the creation and annual presentation of Gold Star banner shadow boxes to families of Service Members who lost their lives on Active Duty.

  • Operation Christmas Bear

    Longtime supporter of this annual Christmas celebration for families of deployed Service Members, held in Huntsville.

  • Still Serving Veterans

    Proud sponsor of this Huntsville-based nonprofit providing counseling and vocational assistance to active, wounded, and retired Veterans.

  • Honor Flight (Tennessee Valley Chapter)

    Annual financial supporter of this all-volunteer nonprofit that flew over 1,300 North Alabama WWII Veterans to Washington, D.C.

  • Valor Flight

    Financial supporter of flights honoring North Alabama Korean War Veterans with visits to their memorial in Washington, D.C.

  • Huntsville Veterans Memorial Museum & Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives

    Provides financial donations and member-contributed artifacts to support both museums.

  • Semper Fi Community Task Force – Warriors’ Week

    Supports this annual all-expense-paid week in Huntsville for wounded Warriors and their guests, including covering lifetime membership initiation fees for the Military Order of the Purple Heart when applicable.

  • Huntsville Veterans Day Parade

    Recruits and sponsors local high school and university marching bands to participate in the annual parade honoring our Nation’s Armed Forces.

Within 14 days of completing any Veterans Program activity, the committee chair provides a summary and photos (if available) to the ASMDA President and Website Committee Chair for publication on the ASMDA website.
